So here I have, a tall white mocha, skim, no whip; and a book to accompany me for the next two hours before MIT lecture at 7. Coffee check, book check. But where am I? At the cafe which happens to serve starbucks coffee thankfully.
At the library.
Sometimes I don't know if I shld be glad I've starbucks on campus, even though the cafes serving starbucks drinks don't resemble starbucks to a great extent but still. And sometimes I wonder if its just plain sad. And yes I do appreciate the fact that I had a starbucks within 5 mins of walking distance from where I used to live in sg. But anyway that aside, I shld just settle for timmies and cut down on my caffiene intake.
Last week was a rough week, this week isn't smooth sailing but at least it's a lil better. And yes reading week is round the corner so, just a few more days before I'm outta this place. But as much as I want this break to begin now, I"m not looking forward to post reading week, four exams in two weeks, business report, MIT assignments and it's getting too depressing already.
But on the bright side, reading week! Hmms hoping to catch up with friends, and family. Well it is cny. But hms haven't spent cny in asia for some years now. This year seems a lil different, I usually don't ask for cny food and what not but this year I did and mum sent bro and I our favourite pineapple tarts (we only eat the prima ones) and mum managed to sneak a pack of bakwa too so amazingly, I had nothing at home at first ( since I was gonna be away for a week )but now my kitchen is loaded with tins of pineapple tarts, bakwa and even candies. And no, I didn't ask for candies, mum's idea.
And yes, mum has been awesome too, cny goodies tgt with traditional herbal soup stuff, and birds nest etc. this makes me love fedex.
So well. At least one good thing happened right?
I gotta hand in my form tmr. An alternative offer to exchange to NTU did seem like a joke at first. And still is. But funny how I actually hesitated and gave it two seconds of thought.
Gosh.
Somehow this year, I do miss home. Perhaps this is the beginning when the novelty wears off and its no longer refreshing to spend family events and holidays abroad.
toes frozen thanks to the snow!

who's got your back?
to be honest. this week hasn't been all that good at all. as usual, aside from having to deal with school work and stuff, I had to do some misc stuff, settling some documents, thinking about next academic year's plans, and selling tickets for an event I wasn't even involved.
Through those, I surprised myself this week with quite a few realisations. and I must say, it really can get quite upsetting and disappointing when what you thought was so wrong. for sure, it wldn't be the same if it was the other way around. but oh wells, despite all that, at least i know one person was different.
but it's ok, life's like that right? it kinda sucks now, but it'll get better! ..just a matter of when. the weekend should be here now.

single or multi coloured
hello earthlings
so thankfully I survived the past week, done with the MIT assignment, math and 4hour business exam. it's only week 4 and i already have exams, kinda sad but at least they're over for now. and on the other hand, i ended off the week pretty enjoyably with a home cooked meal at ada's, and a day out with ly at the mall and jack astors, followed by squash with sunny to lose off the sinful lobster and crab dip i had for dinner. haha.
Really glad i got to take a break at the end of the week.though theres some catching up to do this week with my readings and assignments. Although this sem hasn't been as busy as the first, it's still good to have a break after a week of exam preparation and what not. and some friends have been really awfully busy ever since the start of january, so I'm hoping they get to take a good break when spring break comes.
and speaking of spring break, it is round the corner 12th feb onwards, which is also the week of Vday and CNY. haven't had a real CNY for a few years now so i guess I'm more or less used to it. the only saddening thing about it is that I'll not be able to have 10 days of fun because I'll have to study for two MIT exams happening straight after the break, on a monday and tuesday. now that is upsetting but I don't have a choice so blahh with that. mum's sending me some of my fav pineapple tarts so I'm eagerly waiting for those to arrive soon!
oh wells. sometimes when you are really busy with school and work, you find joy in lil things you do, whether it's going out for a dinner with a friend, playing a game of squash, or just sitting down to watch television, even grocery shopping.
hms gonna attempt to work a lil harder this two weeks and then have a good break mid feb, before coming back to.. conquer the two MIT exams. let's just worry about that later.
til next time!
[now that I've caught up with all the epis of House MD, Gossip Girl, and Glee. I started on a new show recommended by renee!]

雨天
the past week hasn't been too good, been rather.. downhearted of late. and it ended off with a really rainy day. funny how I'm actually using the word rain, and not snow at this time of the year. but yes, it was somehow nice to actually see raindrops just pelting against the window pane, and the familiarity of the sound of raindrops.
but at least, the weekend took a turn, indulged in pizza, desserts and drinks, chilled at rebecca's, then sunny's, then at res with the london hall neighbours, guitar, eggnog/rum and some very amusing songs. haha. talked to mum and dad as well, before having a great catching up session on oovoo with dear MX. I must say it was good seeing an old friend (even though it was on a screen), to catch up about each others lives and people's happenings.
sometimes when things are happening,
you need to give advice,
you need to encourage,
you need to show support,
or you can simply just be a listener..
but. there are times when roles have to be switched so thanks for that :)

glee

so surprisingly, professor Torres showed us an episode of the TV series "GLEE" during lecture today, and I decided to take a second look at it and now I'm watching the series. it's about a high school show choir but no, no cliche HSM kinda songs thing but more like, the pop songs and top 40 stuff we hear. let's just say there's actually some real quality content here. and the series won the Best Tv series 2010 Golden Globe just yesterday! here's a clip of them doing "no air".
sending some love to the ppl I miss :)

It's 4.33am and I can't sleep.
hello earthlings,
So its been 2 weeks of classes already, pretty much settled all logistics and life is back on track.it took me quite a while seriously to get out of the holiday mood and some part of me is glad I'm starting to focus more on school again. And yes eventually the workaholic will come out from within.. Expecting many busy days ahead and the thought of it alone can be rather saddening.. Everyone seems to hate school at some point? Right. let's just leave that thought for now.
Its funny how my thoughts that I want to blog abt usually don't come to me when I'm at a com, but instead when I'm away from one, like when I'm walking to campus, cooking, playing a game of squash, at the gym etc. Most of the time I'll tell myself I shld blog abt this and sadly, the chances of that thought translating to a real tangible post usually doesn't occur. Ok blame it on the fish memory I have, as well as the great art of procrastinating.
anyway, lectures this week have all been pretty hardcore, discussing about some really challenging content, and names of theorists from the past keeps popping up. so yes I'm making the effort to pay attention in lectures, in hopes of seeking some form of enlightenment. We were discussing abt present day communication in tutorial just tonight and Schmaltz made a really apt comment about facebook, "a tool that completely exploits the fetish of knowing what's going on in your friends lives" , (or rather "friends") Well that is of course, ur friends have to be keeners who update on a regular basis.
But anyway, yes I do agree with it being a very good tool to know how ur friend is doing though I'd still prefer the emailing or the phone calls if you genuinely wanna ask someone "how are you?" But that's my preference, not sure if any of you out there agree but yeah.. Its good to know how ppl are doing in general I guess cos time distance and what not doesn't permit the face to face communication.
On a sidenote, do you realise how as we grow older, friends get displaced somehow? Probably one good thing about growing older is you actually see who sticks around eventually :)
Ok. Its 2010. Should I take the first step? yes no yes no yes no. no.
Esplanade, rider's cafe, dempsey, timbre, clarke quay, tangs, siglap, prive, singapore. These places popped up in my head this week. I miss home !
